According to the BBC, Manchester United’s Wayne Rooney has agreed to a new five-and-a-half year deal.

Talks have been in the works for the last month or so regarding a new contract for the striker and reports emerged yesterday that Wayne had indeed signed a new deal.

That has been confirmed by BBC, who said that he put pen-to-paper on a new five-and-a-half year contract that has the England international earning a reported 300,000 a week.

Rooney’s £70m deal with the club was reportedly being held up by negotiations over his image rights, but David Moyes is delighted with the club’s success-Rooney signing a new contract. This almost feels like a completely new signing for the club.

Rooney’s future had been uncertain following his statement last summer that he wanted to leave the club. Moyes’ predecessor, Sir Alex Ferguson, admitted that Rooney had come to him and said he wanted to move on in his career. Moyes managed to keep hold of the former Everton striker, despite massive interest from Chelsea.

The Blues had multiple bids rejected by the Red Devils and Rooney eventually fully committed himself to the club, which provides a boost to the morale of fans at Old Trafford in the middle of a disappointing season so far.
