In baseball news out of Philadelphia, the Philadelphia Phillies have re-signed catcher Carlos Ruiz to a three year $26 million dollar deal with a 4.5 million club option in 2017. One of the terms in Ruiz’s contract states he can be bought out for $500,000 in 2017.

Ruiz is now the fourth highest paid catcher in all of baseball. He has spent 10 seasons in the MLB he’s played all 10 as a member of this Fighting Phillies team. His best season came in 2008 when the Phillies won the World Series. Chooch has also been in the All-Star being names to the roster for the Mid-Summer Classic this year. It was Ruiz’s all-star appearance representing the National League.

Ruiz will also have a 10-5 option that contractually grants him the right to veto any attempts at a trade unless he agrees to it. His performance over the next three years will let the world know if this was a great deal for both sides. Congrats Carlos on your new deal. It looks as if Ruben Amaro may have finally done something right for the Phillies.
