With the Man United skipper’s decision not to renew his contract and to move on with his career at the end of the season, mixed emotions have emerged. Some think he’s too old to play for a world-class club, while others think he’s a defensive Ryan Giggs.

No matter what side of the issue they’re on, EVERYONE respects his contribution to the club. His legendary partnership with Rio Ferdinand will live on in the memory of fans everywhere, and the club will miss him greatly.

I’d like to go back and look at his best moments from each year of his 8 years with the club.

First Season–Came on in the 83rd minute of the 2006 League Cup and after winning, gave his medal to Giuseppe Rossi for Rossi’s play in previous rounds of the competition. Highlighting his sense of justice and fairness, he, according to manutd.com, felt “Rossi was more deserving of the prize, having started the three games before the semi-finals during the cup run.”

Second Season–Scored his first goal for the Red Devils in a 1-3 defeat of Wigan Athletic, scoring his first Old Trafford goal in the 3-0 win over Portsmouth, and his first Champions League goal against Benfica.

Third Season–Was instrumental in the squad who won the 2008 Champions League, beating Chelsea in dramatic fashion in Moscow. Doing so, he earned his first European medal.

Fourth Season–Started every match in the Premier League and was named the Manchester United Fans’ and Players’ Player of the Year.

Fifth Season–Managed for the first time to play a full 90 minutes against Liverpool without being sent off.

Sixth Season–Helped Manchester United win their record-breaking 19th Premier League title. Also, got the 1,000th goal scored at Old Trafford in the Premier League.

Seventh Season–Spent almost all the season injured but managed to play well when he could play, leading the Red Devils to six clean sheets.

Eighth Season–was injured again for some of the season, but managed to make 22 Premier League appearances for Manchester United, helping their victorious title winning season.

Throughout his 290 appearances, he has scored 20 times, made countless tackles, blocked many shots, some famously with his head, and never played less than his best.

Captaining the club for the last five years, he has been a great leader for the Reds, becoming a fan favorite and winning 15 trophies. As they say, “What’s that coming over the hill?  Is it Nemanja?  Is it Nemanja?” Once a Red, always a Red. Wishing the best of luck to Nemanja Vidic in his future endeavours, and as always, We Stand United
